Sakari Oramo conducts the BBC Symphony Orchestra

After a performance of Shostakovich’s 9th Symphony, Martin Fröst will perform Aaron Copland’s Clarinet Concerto. The concert concludes with Prokofiev’s Symphony No 6.

During the evening Sakari Oramo will be presented with the CoScan International Award, which was established in 1994 to recognise an achievement of outstanding merit by a individual, body or group related to one or more of the Nordic countries.

Charity Concert – Night under the Stars: Northern Lights

This is a charity concert in aid of The Passage, a charity for homeless people. It features music by Grieg, including his Piano Concerto (soloist Vikingur Olafsson) and Sibelius, The Tryst, Andante Festivo and Finlandia

World Premiere of Magnus Lindberg’s Triumph to Exist

The World Premiere of Magnus Linberg’s Triumph to Exist will form part of a concert of music by four composers set against the backgropund of the turmoil of the Fiurst World War. The other works are Debussy Berceuse heroique, Stravinsky’s Requiem Canticles and Janacek, The Eternal Gospel. Vladimir Jurowski conducts the London Philharmonic Orchestra at the Royal Festival Hall at 19.30
